Omega Black College Tour: Access, Opportunity, Legacy

Following in the footsteps

of our HBCU Forefathers

The Omega Black College Tour (OBCT) is a nationally recognized college access program exposing high school students to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Through immersive campus visits, leadership workshops, and financial aid education, OBCT empowers students to pursue higher education and develop into future leaders.

Founded in 1986 by educator John L. Staton, the Omega Black College Tour (OBCT) was created to challenge misconceptions about Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and expose students to the excellence of Black higher education. Since its inception, more than 1,500 students have participated in the tour.

OBCT provides immersive HBCU campus visits that allow students to experience college life firsthand while learning about academic opportunities, financial aid, and the legacy of Black excellence. By stepping outside their comfort zones, scholars are encouraged to dream beyond their current circumstances and envision their future success.

The tour is designed to spark intellectual curiosity, build confidence, and reinforce the belief that a student’s background does not limit their potential – success is within reach.

Xi Phi Chapter and Community Uplift through Perseverance Inc. (C.U.P) 501c3 sponsor and underwrite the Omega Black College Tour (OBCT). Students enrolled in high schools in the New York City and broader metropolitan area visit several Historically Black Colleges and Universities during the tour. For more than 40 years, the tour has challenged young scholars through mentoring, leadership development and exposure to educational opportunities at HBCUs.

These institutions are more relevant and necessary in 21st Century America than ever before. With their course offerings in the STEM fields, smaller class sizes, support networks, and diversity and openness, HBCUs are critical to providing the next generation of leaders who will support and build our knowledge-based technological society. The tour has resulted in transforming the futures of more than 1500 young people since it was founded in 1986.

The theme for the OBCT is following in the footsteps of our HBCU Forefathers. We want to make sure that young people and their families know the societal relevance of historically black colleges and universities.
